Eligibility: Cabell, Wayne, WV; Lawrence Co., OH; Boyd & Greenup, KY. Adult Volunteers: 19 yrs.+, must have a car and valid driver's license.
School-based mentors: 18+. All must be screened. Children: 6-14 yrs. in need of mentoring and guidance from an adult.
Description: SERVICES:

COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAM:
Matches children in need of guidance and support with an adult volunteer, on a one-to-one basis. Volunteers provides adult friendship, guidance and a positive role model a minimum of 3-4 hours, twice a month. Program also matches one child to a couple.
* Volunteers "Bigs":
> Must be 19 years of age or older
> Must have a car and a valid drivers license
> Must be willing to submit to police check, reference checks, and an application-interview process.
> Must be able to see a "Little" (the child) twice a month for 3-4 hours a visit
> Must have the ability to make a one year commitment (matches are evaluated and can continue beyond one year)
> If applying for the Couples Matching Program, the couple must be married at least one year.
* Children "Littles":
> Must be 6-14 years of age (once matched, can stay in the program until age 18)
> Must want to develop a friendship with an adult volunteer
> Must reside in a single parent home from area served.
> Must have parental permission.

SCHOOL-BASED MENTORING:
Mentoring one hour/week during school day at selected schools.
* Volunteers "Bigs":
> Must be 18 years of age or older
> Must have reliable transportation
> Must be willing to submit to police check, reference checks, and an application-interview process.
> Must be able to spend one (1) hour a week with the same child for the duration of the school year. Contact is limited to the school setting.

* Children "Littles":
> Must be referred by their teacher, counselor or principal who feels that they could use a positive role model in their life.
> Must be attending a participating school.
