Eligibility: Cabell, Wayne, Mason, Lincoln Counties in WV. Lawrence Co., OH. Disaster assistance: requests must be made within 3 days of the disaster. Must be permanent residents of the affected residence.
Description: In 1905, the Red Cross was chartered by Congress to "carry on a system of national and international relief…in mitigating the sufferings caused by pestilence, famine, fire, floods and other great national calamities".

DISASTER RELIEF OPERATIONS:
> Opens shelters with cots and blankets
> Mass feeding sites and food
> Medical assessment and first aid, provided at at the shelters.

DISASTER EDUCATION (526-2915):
> Provides disaster awareness classes.
> Trains individual volunteers in disaster response procedures (from basic to advanced)

DISASTER VICTIM ASSISTANCE (Fire, flood, national calamities): Provides immedicate assistance through client assistance cards for disaster victims who were permanent residents of the damaged residence:
> Food
> Clothing with shoes, if needed due to disaster
> Temporary shelter - up to 2 nights at a motel with an "agreement" with Red Cross
> Provides referrals to social service providers for services not provided through Red Cross. (Red Cross does not assist with utilities, transportation, or rent.)

EDUCATION (526-2995)
Fees charged. Multiple skill levels of certified classes for the community and workplace in:
> First Aid
> C.P.R.
> C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer
> Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
> Babysitter's Training (ages 11-15)
> Prevention of disease transmission
> Back injury prevention
> Lifeguarding
> Family Caregiving

ARMED FORCES EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION SERVICES:
Keeps military personnel in touch with their families following the death or serious illness of a family member or other important events, such as the birth of a child. Sends messages quickly, anywhere in the world, including ships at sea, embassies and to isolated military units.

MILITARY ACTIVE DUTY ASSISTANCE:
Does the paper work to assist active duty individuals with loans secured from the military person's pay. (To be repaid later)

INTERNATIONAL TRACING SERVICES:
For persons separated by disasters, civil unrest, and war in other countries, including the Holocaust.

VOLUNTEERISM:
Utilizes volunteers for many services provided. Training provided.
